WHILE WE WAIT: WE MUST BE RIGHTEOUS & HOLY

“Whoever is evil will go on doing evil, and whoever is filthy will go on being filthy;
whoever is good will go on doing good, and whoever is holy will go on being holy.”

Revelation 22:11

In the book of 1 Peter, the apostle reminds his readers of their calling to be holy because our Heavenly Father is holy. Holiness and righteousness have become an unpopular topic in the modern world. However, in Jesus’ eyes both are still relevant and required of his followers today.  The call to live a righteous and holy life is a call for all Christians. We are to be holy while we wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The enemy has deceived many into believing that we cannot live a righteous and holy life. Its sounds like this: “nobody is perfect.” Have you ever heard that? Why would God tell us to be holy if it were impossible? We cannot be holy or righteous on our own, apart from Jesus. However, the Holy Spirit helps Believers be holy by the power of Jesus Christ that lives in us. Praise the Lord.

As long as we are breathing, we still have a chance to get things right with God before it is too late. Believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and confessing, repenting and asking him to forgive your sins will save you if you mean it in your heart. However, after death there are no second chances! How you lived and who you are when you die is who you will continue to be into eternity. That’s why the angel told John, that whoever is evil will go on doing evil. After death, the door to get things right will be shut. It is too late to repent or receive God’s forgiveness for your sins through faith in Jesus Christ after death. The filthy and unjust will continue to be that way into eternal damnation. Therefore, they will not live in God’s house, but they will go to hell.  On the other hand, those who choose to be holy now will continue to be holy then. Therefore, they will be able to live with God forever in heaven. Now, that is something to look forward to. This is a call to be righteous and holy. While we wait for Christ’s return, we must be like our Heavenly Father: HOLY!

Questions: Do you want to be Holy? What sins are keeping you from holiness?  How does the world discourage you from living a holy life? Is the Holy Spirit leading you to be righteous?

Prayer: Lord, You have told us to be holy because You are holy. We desire to be like You. We cannot do it without Your help. We don’t want to wait until it is too late. Thank you for the opportunity to get it right now. Help me to be Holy by your Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
