DON’T TAKE IT PERSONAL

“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.” Matthew 5:11-12
The persecution of the righteous and the Kingdom of God just seem to go hand-in-hand. We shouldn’t take it personal when we are being mistreated for righteousness sake. Truth be told, it isn’t personal it is spiritual. The enemy and his unbelieving children are envious toward us. We share in the blessed happiness of The Kingdom and they do not. God makes His children bigger than their problems, gives them the confidence to remain rock steady, and provides peace in a world of chaos. Satan and his followers are mad at God and they take it out on us. To them, it’s not fair! This is why it should not surprise us when we are persecuted and mistreated for our faith. If they treated Jesus like that, you can be sure that they will treat his followers the same.
When we are converted into The Kingdom, through faith in Christ, Jesus recreates us in righteousness. His righteousness becomes our righteousness. We begin to share Jesus’ divine characteristics. As a result, we start to experience satanic attacks just like Jesus did. It is all because He lives in us. Don’t think that something is wrong with you when you are being abused for taking your faith serious. Persecution is not an indication that there is something wrong with you. It is a sign that something is right. Satan does not bother anyone that he already controls. Remember, when the demon-controlled unbelievers make up lies and insults, and harass you, it is because you are God’s righteous child. Don’t take it personal. Don’t let that throw you off your game. The darkness will try to put out your light by any means necessary. So let us rejoice and be glad, for Jesus promises great rewards for those who overcome. The cross is worth the crown! Jesus said so.
Question: How do you respond to someone when they are purposely trying to ruin your mood? How can we remind ourselves not to take it personal, but to remember that our battle is spiritual and not carnal?
Prayer: Lord, remind us of the armor and weapons that you have laid down for us to pick up and use. You told us that difficult days are ahead for your children. However, we are neither fearful nor upset, because we know you are with us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
