During John’s worship experience, he reported that he heard a voice behind him and he had to turn around to see who was talking to him. Get this; John had to turn to see Jesus. This means that he had to turn from where he was looking; he was looking in a different direction.  John had to turn away from what he was thinking and what he was doing, in order to see the true Jesus. When it comes to worship, too many people are looking in the wrong places. We are looking for symbols, religion, tradition, the choir and preacher to stir us up. We look for community connections and social gatherings to come together. However, this is all wrong! None of those things are the true Jesus. True worship is about submission and humility. It is a lifestyle of allowing Jesus to control your life. When you humbly submit to Jesus, that’s when you will hear a word from Him and see the true Jesus. Where are you looking?

Questions: Can you list some distractions that can cause you to look in a wrong direction, and in doing so miss the true Jesus? Where are you looking during your worship time?

Prayer: Lord we ask in Jesus’ name that you would open our eyes and ears so we can see and hear from You. Help us to become unstuck in our worship to You. Show us the areas in our lives where we are worshiping things other than You, and at the same time saying that it is from You.  Remove these distractions in Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN!
