COLLEGE DROPOUT

“Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.”
 Philippians 2:12-13

Far too often, some college students wait to the last minute to cram for an important test.  No matter how much time beforehand they were given to study, they do not open their textbooks.  This happens in spite of the professor’s warning and the numerous tutors available. At the end of the day, it is up to the students to decide to read what they’ve been told to read. They have to choose to go to the tutor when they need help. The responsibility lies solely on the student to be disciplined; it’s their choice.  No commitment, means, no graduation. In college, there is no room for lukewarm students. At that level, a teacher or parent is not going to go behind the student every day to make sure he/she is completing their work, that’s High School stuff.  Usually, if a student wants it bad enough, they have every opportunity to succeed. No excuses.

This is a message for the church today. It depends on how bad you want to graduate. Too many fake Christians don’t want it bad enough. They don’t want to cut off the television to study their Bible. They do not want it bad enough to make necessary sacrifices. They don’t want to take heed to the warnings and advice given by The Professor, Jesus.  It’s scary to think that some fake Christians are not going to make it in, they think they can cram at the last minute. Jesus does not want us to cram. He has given us ample time to be ready.  There is a personal responsibility that comes into play when you are given a “heads up”.  It all comes down to whether you believe the warning from Jesus and take it serious. Some students fail the exam, or even drop out, because they weren’t prepared. It’s sad to say but, the same will happen to fake Christians who have not taken the revelation of Jesus serious.

Questions: How serious do you take the warning of Jesus’ return? Are there any things in your life that keep you from preparing for Jesus’ return? What areas do you feel God wants you to sacrifice to spend time with Him?

Prayer: Our Lord, we want to be ready for your return. Help us get this Word into our heart so we do not get caught trying to cram it in at the last moment. By then it could be too late. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
