THE KINGDOM SECRETS

“And with many such parables He was speaking the word to them, so far as they were able to understand it, and He did not speak to them without a parable; but He was explaining everything privately to His own disciples.” Mark 33-34
The central focus of Jesus throughout his ministry was the gospel of the coming kingdom. Getting the good news out there that he came to rule on earth as King was his top priority. One day soon, Jesus will return with His saints and rule the earth for one thousand years in the promised coming kingdom. Hallelujah! If this is news to you, or maybe you never understood what the Millennium was all about; maybe it’s because the Kingdom of God is a secret. That’s right, God has kingdom secrets. The Lord has secrets pertaining to the kingdom of God, and they are hidden by Him on purpose from His enemies. For Kingdom secrets must be revealed to you by God’s Holy Spirit. The Lord only gives His children a Heads up!
The gospels of Matthew and Mark record a time when Jesus started using parables exclusively when talking about the kingdom to the crowds. In the early part of His ministry, Jesus preached and taught clearly without using riddles and mysteries. However, there was a point where Jesus’ teaching style changed. He no longer taught and preached like he used to but started using parables instead.
Many people have a misunderstanding of what a parable is. Some people think a parable is an earthy story with a heavenly meaning. That is only partly true. A parable is actually the opposite. A parable is a short illustration used by Jesus to hide the meaning of spiritual truths. That’s right, Jesus used parables to hide what he was saying from his enemies in the crowd. Jesus hid the truth about His kingdom from all Unbelievers on purpose.
If spreading the good news about His coming kingdom was such a big deal to Jesus, why did he start hiding the meaning? Why are there kingdom secrets? It might seem strange but think about it. In the early phase of Jesus’ ministry, he spoke to them clearly. There was no secret to what He was saying. His messages were usually short and to the point. However, something changed when Jesus noticed the people were not listening to Him when He was talking to them about His coming Kingdom. So he spoon feed them for a while, until he eventually stopped talking to them because they weren’t listening. Parents relate to this when dealing with obstinate children. When your child refuses to listen to you, it’s time for drastic measures. Well, that’s how Jesus felt. They were not listening to what He was saying. So, He only explained the meaning of the parables about his kingdom to his disciples that wanted to hear what he had to say. Jesus feed the people that were hungry for the truth, and he left the rest of the crowd in the dark. Do you get the picture? It might seem strange that Jesus would do this, but secrets are for people that want to be a part of the Kingdom of God. Jesus has secrets. The question is, are you listening to Jesus or not?
Question: How do you respond when God’s word is taught or preached? Do you listen or ignore the truth when you hear it? Are your eyes and ears open to God? How can you tell when you or someone is listening or not? How can you listen to Jesus more in your everyday life?
Prayer: Thank you Lord for your word. I ask that you give me ears to hear, eyes to see and a heart that obeys you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
