THE THORNY HEARTED

“The seeds that fell among the thornbushes are also people who hear the message. But they are so eager for riches and pleasures that they never produce anything.”

Luke 8:14

1 John 2:15, states, “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you”. You see friends, worldliness chokes out God’s Word from people who have a thorny heart, causing them to seek success in the world. That is another example that Jesus used in the parable of the sower to describe people in the last days. Jesus compares the hearts of some people to a crop growing together with thornbushes, which chokes the life of a plant. As a result, the plant is unable to produce any fruit for the farmer. What a shame.

People who have a thorny heart are self-absorbed. They may go to church occasionally, but they are not committed. They think life is all about them and what they can get out of it. The Bible describes them as carnal and not spiritual. Make no doubt about it, no man can serve two masters. Don't be the type of person that thinks you can have one foot in the world and one foot in the church. It doesn't work like that.  You see, if you love the world, how can you be excited about God’s Kingdom? You can't. You will either love one and hate the other. That is what the Bible says. You are either a part of the church and separated from the world, or vice versa. Period.

Question: Do you bear fruit for God, or is God’s life choke out of you by the cares of this world?

Prayer: Lord, remove the thorns that choke out your word. Remind us to seek Your Kingdom and Your righteousness first, and all these things will be added unto us. Thank You. AMEN.
