THE FARMER

“A farmer went out to scatter seed in a field.” Luke 8:4a CEV
“The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others.” Mark 4:14 NLT
When we look closer at the parable of the sower, we will find that all of us have a part to play in building God’s Kingdom. When you sign up to become a follower of Christ, it is not okay to just watch the game from the sideline. God the Father wants you playing, because Christianity is not a spectator sport. As a Christian, you were bought at a price. Jesus had to shed his blood for you and me. We need to at least do our part.
The parable of the Sower shows us our contribution to the Kingdom. For an example, Jesus began the parable by talking about a farmer scattering seed into his field. Just like a farmer that spreads seed in a field, a Christian's job is to spread the good news to a lost world. This means that all believers have an obligation to share the good news about the coming Kingdom, along with God’s secret plan of salvation, which is through faith in Jesus Christ. That is your contribution to the Kingdom. Not just the preachers, but all Christians. It is easy to pass the job on to someone else when it comes to witnessing for Jesus. There can be a lot of pressure from our peers, along with some persecution and suffering. Jesus warned of this so we must not be ashamed of Him and be of good cheer. Brothers and sisters, the world needs to know that Jesus is coming soon, and He can save us from all our sins! Jesus has called us to be His witnesses. Will you do your part?
Questions: What kind of pressures or obstacles do you need to overcome to be a better witness for Christ? Are you prepared to give someone a reason for your hope at any time? What could you do to become a better Sower?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help us not to be ashamed of You. We want to acknowledge you before others, and we want to spread the good news to a lost world. We cannot do it without the help of the Holy Spirit. We confess that we drop the ball often and allow opportunities to pass us by. We want to change Lord, and we need your help and courage. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
