THE TEXTBOOK

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and teaching. For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear. They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths”

2 Timothy 4:2-4

If there’s anything we need to do today, it is to be grounded in the Word of God. If we remember, Paul warned Timothy that in the end times, people will not take God’s Word serious. This will include people in the church. The church can make the mistake of lowering the standard so we can have large crowds. A church that doesn’t test everything by using the Word of God is an Apostate church. The Bible is our text book, so to speak. It’s the standard upon which every conduct, creed, and opinion will be tried. Not living according to scripture is what will cause most people to flunk. Heads up!

Just like a professor has a test day, a day of reckoning, there will be such a day for everybody who dies. Everyone will have to stand, on judgement day, before God. You will not and cannot pass through, to the next life to be with God forever, if you did not let the Bible be your standard for living. You cannot go by a different curriculum if you want to pass the class. You cannot follow the curriculum of the culture.  You cannot let the curriculum of your feelings and sinful desires guide you through life.  It doesn’t even matter if you go through all the religious motions, if the Word of God is not your guide. It doesn’t matter if people think you are a great Christian, and you can quote scripture. You have to let the Bible check you when you are wrong, and encourage you when you are down. Living a Christian life means letting His word get into your heart. So let the Bible be the standard for how you live and what you believe, and you will pass the test. You will graduate.

Questions: Can you identify some of the barriers that can prevent God’s Word being planted into your heart? You can use Matthew 13: 1-9, 18-23 as a guide.

Prayer:  Lord, we don’t want to be hearers of your Word only. Help us to be doers also. We confess that we are sinners and, without you, we can do nothing.
