DISCIPLES ASK QUESTIONS

Later, when Jesus was alone with the twelve disciples and with the others who were gathered around, they asked him what the parables meant.
He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secret of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables for everything I say to outsiders.”
Mark 4:10-11
Friends let me tell you something, when it comes to Kingdom secrets, the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask. When looking at the parable of the sower, we learn that Jesus’ disciples had no idea what he was talking about in the parable. That can be surprising, because for the most part they had ears to hear and eyes to see. They were with Jesus every day for over three years, but they were confused at what Jesus was teaching. Eventually they mustered enough nerve to ask Jesus to explain the parable. Jesus did not explain the meaning of the parable to the crowds, because they didn’t ask him to. However, since his disciples wanted to know, he gave them the meaning. Jesus says in Matthew 7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened”. Friends, Jesus meant it then, and He still means it today. Hallelujah! Ask Him for understanding.
Questions: Do you depend on God to give you insight on His word, or do you lean to your own understanding? How does asking God for help demonstrate that you are paying attention to His words?
Prayer: Father, may you open our eyes to see, and our ears to hear, and give us a heart to obey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
