INTERLUDE SUMMARY
“What we are teaching you now is the Lord’s teaching: we who are alive on the day the Lord comes will not go ahead of those who have died. There will be the shout of command, the archangel’s voice, the sound of God’s trumpet, and the Lord himself will come down from heaven. Those who have died believing in Christ will rise to life first; then we who are living at that time will be gathered up along with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. So then, encourage one another with these words.”
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18
The interlude, recorded in Revelation 4:1, marks the end of the Church Age. There will be a time when salvation through faith in Jesus, will not come so easily. However, just because the Church Age will one day end, this does not mean the church will end. We see in Revelation 4:1, John heard a loud voice, like a trumpet, saying “come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” We know from act one, in Revelation 1-3, that this voice was from Jesus. In the interlude, Jesus is calling His church to come up to heaven and be where He is. One day Jesus will appear in the clouds and will call His special people to live with Him forever. Just because the Church age must end, the church itself will last forever. This is the hope for all who believe.
This is why the messages that Jesus gave John to the seven churches in Act One are important. The churches recorded in Act One; represent the complete history of the church throughout the ages. In Act One, the curtain was pulled back and John saw Jesus running the world from His throne in Heaven. John witnessed Jesus overseeing His church and disciplining His church. Jesus also encouraged His churches to repent and overcome. The messages to the seven churches were marked with urgency. In addition, Jesus promised rewards for those who overcame and responded to His messages properly.
After the Church Age ends, those who are faithful, repented of sin, and overcome, will be with Jesus forever. They will enjoy rewards and privileges that will last for eternity. Let’s not get it twisted, Jesus’ messages to the churches then, is the same messages to the churches today. One day we will join Jesus in the clouds. Do not miss the backstory.
