TREAD LIGHTLY: KNOW WHO YOU WORSHIP
“From the throne came flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder. And in front of the throne were seven torches with burning flames. This is the sevenfold Spirit of God. In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal.
In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back. The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Revelation 4:5-8
When it comes to true worship, you ought to know who it is you’re worshiping. You cannot offer God true worship if you have not been properly introduced to Him. When Moses encountered God on Mount Sinai, he was told to take his shoes off. Moses learned that you cannot just walk up on God, because He is holy. True worship exhibits our honor and respect of Him. You best tread lightly when approaching our Lord. The Bible says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” Proverbs 9:10. No wonder why so many do not worship the Lord, because they do not know who they are worshipping. God is Holy, and knowing that will bless us.
If you are going to have a relationship with the Lord, you have to fear Him. When John saw the throne of God, he noticed that there were flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder springing from the center. This is a representation of God’s unconditional power and authority, and his opposition to sin. The crystal sea, encircling the throne as the floor of Heaven, signifies that none can walk up there but the righteous. You have to be purified by the blood of Christ. John also noticed seven blazing torches encircling the throne, which represent the sevenfold spirit of God. These are the manifestations of the different characteristics that are a part of Him. It also symbolizes that Jesus lights the way and He has The Spirit in full measure. No one can come to the Father but by Him.
According to John’s vision, the throne of God represents His supreme authority. No one can usurp God’s place. No one can knock Him from His rightful position as the supreme ruler of all creation. Satan learned that the hard way. That is what the four beings, depicted in Revelation 4, represent. They point to Jesus as the rightful ruler, higher than anyone else. He is the sacrificial offering made for the sins of the world. He is God’s plan for salvation. He is the Son of Man, God’s promised Messiah. The beings mentioned not only point everyone to Jesus, but they also have eyes covering them from head to toe. They see everything and stand guard, ensuring no one approaches God’s throne without His permission. No one can just walk up on God. That’s the message for us today. Fear the Lord and know that He is greater than we. Get to know Him for yourself; it will lead you to true worship.
